Listen to this song
From the manger to the table
An Advent Feast begins in longing and waiting. Lamplight flickers, promises are remembered, and the people of God ask Him to draw near. From there the song follows Mary’s faithful welcome, Christ’s birth in Bethlehem and the shepherds’ joyful witness.
The story then opens into the Lord’s table: His saving death, His resurrection life, the Church’s communion and the outward witness of a people sent again in Jesus’ name.

“From Your table to our neighbours,An Advent Feast
Send us out in Jesus’ name.”
Lyrics
Verse 1
Lamplight trembled in the doorways;
Families broke the daily bread.
Through the years of hope and heartache,
Still they held to what God said.
“Come and keep Your ancient promise,
Come and make Your dwelling here;
Through the waiting, through the weeping,
God of Israel, draw near.”
Verse 2
The Holy Spirit overshadowed
Mary with His holy power;
She welcomed all the angel promised,
Trusting God that very hour.
Living ark of holy presence,
Mother of the promised King;
In her arms, the earth’s Creator
Hears the lullaby she sings.
Chorus
Come, behold Him, come, adore Him,
Christ our feast and living Bread;
Word made flesh, the Father’s glory,
In a lowly manger laid.
Gather us around Your table,
Feed us with Your life and love;
Send us out to share Your welcome,
Till You come from heaven above.
Verse 3
In the little town of David,
Mary laid her firstborn down;
Joseph knelt beside the manger,
Night lay deep across the town.
God from God, the Son eternal,
Shared our hunger, breath and bone;
The Creator, cradled in creation,
Made our human life His own.
Verse 4
Shepherds watched the fields in silence;
Heaven’s glory filled the night.
Trembling men received the tidings,
Heard of Christ, their promised light.
Hurrying, they found the manger,
Saw the Child and spread the word;
Through the lanes their praise went ringing,
Telling all they’d heard.
Chorus
Come, behold Him, come, adore Him,
Christ our feast and living Bread;
Word made flesh, the Father’s glory,
In a lowly manger laid.
Gather us around Your table,
Feed us with Your life and love;
Send us out to share Your welcome,
Till You come from heaven above.
Verse 5
At the feast, with His disciples,
Jesus blessed and broke the bread;
Gave the cup, His covenant promise,
Spoke of blood He’d shed.
Then He bore our sins and sorrows,
Gave His life upon the tree;
From the grave He rose in glory,
Christ alive to set us free.
Verse 6
Here Your gathered Church receives You,
Bread is broken, wine is poured;
By Your Spirit we remember,
Share Your life, our risen Lord.
Gathered into one communion,
By Your life and mercy fed;
Here we taste the coming banquet,
Christ, our feast and living Bread.
Bridge
Mary’s Son, Pilate’s victim,
Bore our sorrow, wore our shame;
Risen Lord, alive forever,
At Your table, call our name.
Acclamation
Christ was born!
Christ has died!
Christ is risen!
He will come again!
Acclamation — repeated
Christ was born!
Christ has died!
Christ is risen!
He will come again!
Response
Bread of life, we come before You,
Gathered here to share Your feast;
By Your Spirit, knit together,
Send us out to bear Your peace.
Final chorus
Come, behold Him, come, adore Him,
Christ our feast and living Bread;
Word made flesh, the Father’s glory,
In a lowly manger laid.
Gather us around Your table,
Feed us with Your life and love;
Send us out to share Your welcome,
Till You come from heaven above.
Sending
From Your table to our neighbours,
Send us out in Jesus’ name;
Open doors and feed the hungry,
Let our lives Your love proclaim.
Till the day of Your appearing,
Let our words and actions sing;
Through the streets and through the nations,
We proclaim our coming King!
Final proclamation
Christ, our feast and living Bread!
We proclaim our coming King!
