Four Streams of Formation
Christian formation gathers the whole of life into communion with Christ: our worship, attention, confession and service.
SHINE draws together four interwoven streams: Sacramental, Contemplative, Confessional and Spirit-empowered. Each helps us attend to a dimension of the Holy Spirit’s work as He forms the Church in the likeness of the Son. Together they nurture a life of prayer, truth, communion and faithful witness.
Sacramental
Water · Oil · Table
The sacramental stream attends to our participation in Christ through the embodied life of the Church. Baptismal water, anointing oil and the Lord’s Table belong to a life received from God and offered in His service.
Water speaks of our baptismal union with Christ; oil of consecration and the Holy Spirit’s anointing; the Table of communion in Christ’s body and blood. Together they draw our attention to grace received, lives made ready to serve and a people gathered in thanksgiving.
This stream shapes the Formation Series through baptismal identity, priestly calling and Eucharistic participation. Personal reading opens towards shared worship, reconciliation and the Church’s life of love.

Glory · Joy · Proclamation
The contemplative stream teaches us to attend to God with love. Through Scripture, silence, adoration and thanksgiving, we make room to behold the beauty of Christ and receive the Holy Spirit’s work within us.
As His presence shapes our attention, joy deepens and gives voice to praise. What we behold becomes something we can share through patient listening, merciful action and the proclamation of Christ.
In the Formation Series, moments of reflection and prayer invite this unhurried response. We pause over what we have read, bring our lives before God and carry that attention into our relationships.

Way · Truth · Life
The confessional stream forms us through the truth we receive, confess and obey. With the Church, we listen to Scripture, acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord and hold fast to the hope of the gospel.
Christ leads us in His way, establishes us in His truth and shares His life with us. Our confession takes voice in worship and prayer, and becomes visible through faithfulness, repentance and love.
The Formation Series encourages readers to bring God’s Word into their own prayers and daily choices. As we speak His promises and trust His faithfulness, we learn to encourage one another and bear a clear, hopeful witness.

Presence · Power
The Spirit-empowered stream expresses our dependence on the Holy Spirit for life, holiness and witness. He draws us into communion with God and strengthens us to participate in Christ’s service to the world.
We welcome His gifts for the building up of the Church, pray for those who suffer and seek courage to proclaim the gospel. In hardship and spiritual conflict, we practise intercession, discernment and steadfast trust in Christ.
This dependence runs through the Formation Series in its prayers, its call to obedience and its hope for the Church. We ask the Spirit to make us attentive, loving and ready to serve wherever God places us.
