S — SEE HIS GLORY

Holy God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, hallowed be Your Name. Before creation praised You, You were glorious. Before any human eye recognised Your beauty, You were worthy. The heavens declare Your glory because they receive their splendour from You; yet no created splendour contains the fullness of who You are. You alone deserve the deepest weight of our trust, fear, wonder, love and obedience.

Lord Jesus Christ, in Your face the light of the knowledge of God’s glory has shone upon us (2 Corinthians 4:6). We adore You as the Lamb who was slain and yet stands. In You holiness and mercy meet, majesty and self-giving love are one, and the glory of God is revealed without disguise. Holy Spirit, open the eyes of our hearts. Teach us to see what heaven sees and to give God the honour already due to His Name.

Father, we thank You for every way You have made Yourself known: for creation, covenant, prophets and promises; for fire, cloud and the holy place; for the songs of Israel and the visions of prophets; and supremely for the Word made flesh. Thank You that the glory Moses longed to see has been unveiled in Jesus Christ. Thank You for the Cross, where holy love gave itself without reserve, and for the Resurrection, where death was shown to have no final claim over the Beloved Son.

Thank You for moments when Your goodness has become clear to us: a Scripture suddenly alive, mercy received after failure, the quiet assurance of Your presence, worship that turned our attention from ourselves, healing, provision, forgiveness, beauty in creation, or the faithfulness of another believer. Every true glimpse calls us back to the Giver.

We remember Moses asking, Show me Your glory. We remember Isaiah standing beneath the cry of holy, holy, holy. We remember John seeing heaven gathered around the throne and the Lamb. Revelation produces response: the creature sees, the heart bows, the mouth gives praise, and the life becomes available to God.

We remember that as we behold the Lord, the Holy Spirit transforms us into the same image from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:18). Attention is never neutral. What we repeatedly honour shapes desire; what we treasure directs obedience. Therefore we place our attention before You today. Give proper weight to every created thing by teaching us the incomparable worth of Christ.

Search us, O God. Forgive us where good gifts have carried weight they were never made to bear. We have sometimes asked money to give us security, reputation to give us worth, political power to give us salvation, success to justify us, beauty to promise permanence, ministry to tell us who we are, or another person’s approval to govern our peace.

Forgive us where we have been more attentive to what is impressive than to what is holy, more moved by visibility than by faithfulness, more disturbed by losing human approval than by grieving Your heart. Forgive us for hurry that leaves no room to behold, for consumption that dulls desire, and for worship offered with our lips while our strongest loves have leaned elsewhere. Turn us again towards the face of Christ.

We renounce every rival claim to the worship, fear and allegiance that belong to You. We refuse to ask created things to carry divine weight. We release our reputation from the burden of saving us. We release possessions from the burden of securing us. We release leaders, institutions, ministries and movements from the burden of becoming our hope. We release our own gifts from the burden of becoming our identity.

Holy Spirit, expose the hidden altars we protect. Where fear reveals what we prize too highly, bring truth. Where envy reveals a glory we covet, bring freedom. Where anger reveals a threatened idol, bring repentance. Where loss has become unbearable because a created good became ultimate, meet us with the greater treasure of Christ.

We confess with heaven: You are worthy. Worthy is the Lamb who was slain. Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God, the radiance of divine glory and the One in whom the Father is made known. Nothing created deserves the place that belongs to You. Nothing compares with the beauty of Your holiness, the depth of Your mercy or the faithfulness of Your love.

We confess that Your glory is not distant from the Cross. The Lamb bears the marks of self-giving love. Therefore we will not measure glory merely by scale, success or visible power. We look to Jesus. We honour the One who served, washed feet, touched the unclean, welcomed children, carried the Cross and rose in victory.

Holy Spirit, unveil Jesus Christ before us. Give us a clearer sight of His worth than we had yesterday. Let Scripture become a window through which His beauty corrects our desires. Purify our imagination. Heal appetites that have become disordered. Restore wonder where familiarity has made us careless. Give us the freedom to enjoy created gifts without worshipping them because our deepest joy is rooted in the Giver.

Form in us an affection strong enough to survive disappointment. Let joy rise from knowing Christ, not from arranging circumstances to our liking. Teach us to delight in the Father’s goodness, to stand amazed before the Son, and to welcome the Spirit’s transforming presence. Make awe steady rather than fleeting and joy truthful enough to live beside tears.

Give us a memory trained by thanksgiving. When anxiety narrows the world to what is threatened, remind us of Your acts. When envy fixes our eyes on another person’s gifts, teach us to bless. When success tempts us to admire ourselves, return us to the Lamb. Let repeated beholding form a people whose loves are steady enough to recognise glory in holiness, mercy, faithfulness and self-giving love.

We pray for artists, musicians, writers, teachers and all whose work shapes imagination. Let beauty become service rather than self-display. Give them courage to create truthfully, resist fashions that reward emptiness, and make room for wonder that directs attention beyond the maker towards the Giver. Let Christian communities recover forms of beauty that are hospitable without becoming thin, reverent without becoming remote, and full of joy without becoming shallow.

We pray for those whose vision of God has been darkened by suffering, hypocrisy or unanswered prayer. Do not demand quick emotion from them. Meet them in truth. Let the wounded Christ become a trustworthy place of encounter. Give companions who will remain without forcing explanations. In time, let Your goodness become visible again and restore the capacity for wonder that pain has narrowed.

Father, reveal the glory of Christ in Your Church. Where congregations have become preoccupied with survival, status or performance, turn our eyes again to the Lamb. Where leaders carry more weight than they were meant to bear, restore proper honour without idolatry. Where worship has become habit without wonder, awaken holy attention. Where fear has made Your people small, show us the greatness of Your goodness.

We pray for a generation trained to measure worth by visibility, followers, money, attractiveness and instant response. Give young and old a deeper measure. Let the beauty of Jesus expose what is thin and temporary. Meet seekers with more than religious information: let them encounter a household whose attention is genuinely centred upon Christ, whose joy has roots, and whose life bears the weight of what it worships.

In the victory of Jesus Christ, we resist spiritual blindness, accusation and every pressure that would make a lesser glory appear ultimate. When temptation magnifies a created good until obedience seems small, remind us of the treasure we have seen. When fear enlarges the opinion of others, remind us before whose face we live. When discouragement makes Your goodness seem distant, lead us back to the Cross and Resurrection.

Guard us from becoming fascinated with darkness. Keep our gaze upon Christ. Let praise become resistance, thanksgiving restore proportion, and Scripture renew our sight. Where communities are captive to greed, hatred, celebrity or fear, raise up a people whose loves are ordered around the Lamb and whose life quietly exposes another measure of worth.

Father, we give You the weight of our attention. Take our eyes, imagination, desires, ambitions and memory. Teach us to notice Your goodness and to return honour to You. Let the glory we behold form the choices we make, the money we spend, the words we speak and the things we refuse. Make our lives available to You as Isaiah’s became available when he had seen the Holy One.

Let holy joy rise as the fruit of rightly ordered love. Let awe deepen until praise comes freely. Let thanksgiving become natural because we have learned to recognise the Giver. And prepare our mouths for the outward movement still to come: the glory truly seen seeks a voice. To You, Father, through the glorious Son, in the transforming Spirit, be honour, thanksgiving and praise.
