The story behind the song
Mark 5:25–34 tells of a woman whose long illness had consumed her resources and left her without relief. Hearing about Jesus, she comes through the crowd and touches His garment. Her healing is immediate, but Jesus pauses the journey. He asks who has touched Him, and she comes forward in fear to tell Him the truth. His response brings personal assurance and peace. The song dwells on this movement from hidden suffering into an encounter in which she is heard and addressed.
The title expresses the personal knowledge and care of Christ; Mark does not give the woman’s name or record Jesus speaking it. The anthem’s final movement looks towards the hands that would bear the nails and the risen Lord who still receives those who come to Him. It invites honest prayer, confidence in His saving authority and trust in His mercy. His welcome draws those who have suffered into the peace of a personal encounter and gives His people a pattern of attentive, compassionate care.
The musical setting
The arrangement centres on a warm female storyteller, with Jesus’ brief replies given to a clear young male voice. Harp, piano, cello and fiddle carry a gentle pulse; tenor banjo, lute and restrained Celtic drums widen the final movement.
