Our God is the same God
Who called to Abraham
Beneath a sky of countless stars
And showed His mighty plan
Through him would come a blessing
For nations near and far
He held the promise through the years
As countless as the stars

Our God is the same God
Who heard His people groan
Who broke the chains of slavery
And claimed them as His own
He drove the waters back that night
His people walked through free
A pathway lay before their feet
Right through the mighty sea

Who fed them on the way
He gave them bread from heaven
To gather day by day
His presence went before them
A fire against the sky
The God who led His people
Still hears His children cry

So merciful and strong
When hearts forgot His goodness
His patience lasted long
When people turned and sought Him
He heard their broken prayer
Through all their desert wanderings
His mercy met them there
He gave a shepherd courage
To face a giant's roar
He kept His servants through the flames
And shut the lions' jaws

Through exile and through longing
His promise still burned bright
A people walking deep in gloom
Would see His glorious light
Then underneath the skies He made
The Word became a child
The Holy One came close to us
The Father's mercy smiled

Whose Son walked through our streets
Who welcomed weary people
And brought them gracious peace
He touched the skin that none would touch
He gave the blind their sight
He took a little girl's cold hand
And called her back to life

He spoke, and winds fell silent
The waves obeyed His word
The hungry ate, the weary came
The broken heard

Then Jesus bore our sins for us
His arms stretched open wide
The earth grew dark beneath His cross
His mother stood nearby
They laid His body in the tomb
Then came that glorious day
The Father raised His Son to life
The stone was rolled away
Jesus is risen
Jesus is Lord

Our God is the same God
Who poured His Spirit out
The sound of wind, the tongues of fire
The songs of praise rang out
Exalted to the Father's side
The risen Saviour reigns
His Spirit fills His people
Who carry forth His Name
They told His works in many tongues
The nations heard His praise
Beside the temple, feet grew strong
A man leapt up in praise

Who heard the prisoners sing
Though wounded backs still ached that night
Their praise rose to their King
The prison shook, the doors flew wide
The chains came loose and fell
A jailer woke to hear the hope
Those faithful men would tell

Our God is the same God
His mighty love is with us now
In homes where grief sits at the table
To Him we lift our voices now
In nights when fear would steal our sleep
Lord Jesus, breathe Your courage deep
You are the Shepherd of Your sheep
Our lives are in Your faithful keep
Your Spirit gives our weary hearts
The strength to love again
We'll bear Your light into our streets
And speak Your mighty Name

The story You have given us
We'll carry as we grow
And children still unborn will hear
The goodness we have known
