The Seven SHINE Pillars
The seven SHINE pillars give a shared language to our life in Christ, connecting what we believe with how we pray and live.
The framework begins with Baptismal Identity, moves through the five themes named by SHINE and leads into Eucharistic Participation. Together these form B–SHINE–E: a pattern of belonging, growth and communion within the Father’s royal household. We return to these themes throughout our lives as the Holy Spirit forms us for worship, holiness and witness.
Baptismal Identity
Receive your life in Christ.
In baptism we are joined to Christ in His death and resurrection, and welcomed into the shared life of His people. Our formation begins in the grace of belonging to Him.
We learn to live from this gift through repentance, trust and obedience. Within the Father’s household, we receive care, take responsibility for one another and grow into a life offered to God.

Attend to the beauty of Christ.
We behold Christ through Scripture, prayer and worship. As we turn towards Him, the Holy Spirit forms us in His likeness and deepens our love for God.
This attention can begin with an unhurried passage of Scripture, a prayer of adoration or thanksgiving with the gathered Church. What we receive in His presence shapes how we see and care for the people around us.

Let the gospel shape your confidence.
God’s faithfulness gives us reason to hold fast to the hope we confess. We receive His Word, speak it in prayer and learn to trust Him through changing circumstances.
With the Church, we listen carefully to Scripture and confess our faith in Jesus Christ. Truth becomes part of our daily life as we keep our promises, practise honesty and encourage those whose hope is wearing thin.

Depend upon the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit strengthens us within, enabling patient endurance, holy obedience and faithful service. We ask for His help in the ordinary demands of life and in the struggles that test our courage.
Prayer, shared worship and the support of Christ’s people teach us to receive that strength. His gifts equip the Church to care for others, bear witness to Jesus and stand firm in love.

Speak and live in the Name of Jesus.
We give thanks to the Father through Jesus Christ and honour His Name in our words and actions. Praise, intercession and the proclamation of the gospel become expressions of a life received from Him.
Our witness takes shape in truthful speech, generous service and the courage to speak of Christ with gentleness. Together we carry His love into our households, communities and places of work.

Gather at the Lord’s Table.
At the Eucharist, the gathered Church gives thanks and shares in the communion of Christ’s body and blood. Through the Holy Spirit, remembrance draws us into living participation in the Lord who gave Himself for us.
As we share the one bread, we receive our calling to live as one body. From the Table we go to practise reconciliation, bear one another’s burdens and serve our neighbours in the self-giving love of Christ.

The five-volume Formation Series grew from the original five SHINE pillars. Their initial letters give SHINE its name, and their sequence provides the formational pattern of the series. Each volume explores its corresponding movement through biblical narrative, reflection and prayer.

Baptismal Identity and Eucharistic Participation frame these five movements within the seven pillars, setting the journey within the Father’s household and the gathered life of the Church.
A life shaped by the Lord’s Prayer
The Lord’s Prayer and its concluding doxology also inform the framework’s design. The prayer teaches us to approach God as Father, honour His Name, seek His kingdom, receive daily provision, practise forgiveness and ask for deliverance. Its closing praise draws our attention to God’s kingdom, power and glory.
This is SHINE’s formational reading of the prayer. It helps us connect the petitions we pray with a life of worship, dependence, reconciliation and witness, gathered into communion with Christ and His people through the Holy Spirit.
